Reasons for continuing our link with Sumy parish:
• We heed the Pope’s request for western parishes to form supporting links with
parishes in the former Soviet Union
• Our parish has taken on a responsibility towards the Sumy parish
• We also have taken on a responsibility to the children of the Sumy orphanages
• The Sumy parishioners feel that they depend on us for growth and support
• It is a practical way of helping them to feel part of the worldwide Catholic Church
• It challenges us to re-look at our Catholic faith in our own lives
• It deepens our faith by exposing us to the trials and difficulties of “the early Church”
• We share our faith through personal contacts and friendship, and learn how they are
rebuilding the Church in Ukraine
• We share our parish 'best practices' with Sumy e.g. Guided Prayer, Children's Masses
• It is a focus for involvement of large numbers of our parishioners
• It provides opportunities for Personal Development and growth for our parishioners
• It helps us to reassess priorities in our own lives
